Despite the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, firefighters have been working and going to jobs. Our friends at Barrybrick Fire-Rescue has seen quite a an uptick of fires lately. Below are some of the alarms the responded to. 33 Truck making the grab at a 10-75 all hands job involving a Class III MD in the Richland Point neighborhood. The busy week continues for Barrybrick Fire-Rescue as companies from across the city battled a stubborn 2nd Alarm Fire at Irish Beach Box 3056. Engine 30 arrived at a 100x50 Class III Taxpayer Building to find heavy fire at the rear. A 10-75 was quickly transmitted with all-hands being put into service shortly after as fire spread throughout the building. After approximately 70 minutes and a special call for the Satellite Unit, Battalion 1 declared PWH and companies knocked down what was left of the blaze. The fire is currently being investigated by the BFI. Tower Ladder 30 moves into position on a special call assignment at a 10-21 in the 1st Battalion “Squad 31 to Dispatch...10-75 the box”

A fire broke out on the lower rooftop of the residential highrise at 1st Avenue. Workers ignited the fire accidentally during repair works of the roof. FDNY was on scene with several units and quickly knocked down the fire. Due to the fast response of the FDNY the fire could be contained to one third of the roof section and the surrounding buildings sustained only minor damage.
On April 1, 2018, Jakelands Bravest operated at a 2 Alarm house fire on Bulldog St in South Jakeland. Thankfully no one was injured at this incident and firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to any exposure buildings. The cause of the fire was determined to be a classic car that caught fire in the attached garage that was running. For more information and pictures, visit the Jakeland FD site.
Several days ago, MacBrick Air Force Base Fire Dept responded to a Commercial Structure Fire at 1801 57th Ave. MAFBFD Engine 201 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire from an abandoned factory. At the peak of the 3rd alarm, over 10 engines, 5 trucks, 3 squads, 3 ambulances, and 8 Chiefs were on scene.
